Some organizations set up a selection process that is long and complex. In some people’s opinion, this kind of selection process is not only more valid but also has symbolic value. In your post, address the following questions:

What can the use of a long complex selection process symbolize to job seekers?
How do you think this would affect the organization’s ability to attract the best employees?

Anytime a company or organization has a long and complex selection process it should tell the job seeker, the company is taking extra precautions on who is hired in. It is not uncommon to have a high interest for a position within an organization, in which increases the process of reviewing each prospect. It may be considered time consuming to run the proper checks required in screen an individual, such as background checks, references, job history, and any other prescreen procedure. It is important that all companies put thought into the knowledge, skills, and ability that a new hire can bring to their organization. Also the higher the position and skillset required that they are trying to fill will need additional time to process, ensuring they have the correct applicant. The organization could have a serious issue if they entrust sensitive and confidential information to the wrong individual.

Another task the company has to consider is making sure the potential hire is the right fit for the team. The wrong hire could have a very damaging effect on the department as well as the company as a whole. In order to have a successful hiring process, know it takes time and money to ensure you are investing in the livelihood of the company as well as the hire.

I think that if it is a good organization with a solid track record job seekers would go through the lengthy process and hope to be hired by that company. A company that has an opening for any position has to assume that the applicant has several resumes out there, and there could be several companies’s thinking it is a good fit for them also. Sometimes taking too long and your perfect candidate could mean risking that the individual is hired by a competitor. However, some companies, do not want to risk losing good, skilled individuals, so the expedite the hiring process, which sometimes could be a bad decision. Additionally that are another factor as well employers should consider, the length of time a person has been without work, this could also affect the selection process.
