Why Japanese internment camps are important to learn about in a history class

    Directions:

    1) Choose a one topic from the course that you understood or that really resonated with you. All I’m asking is for you to choose just one thing, topic, idea, issue that you enjoyed learning about. What was meaningful to you?

    For example: you may have found the real story of Pocahontas really fascinating. You could choose to write about that. Or you may have liked the story of the African slave trade and its impact on America The assignment is open to whatever you want. It’s evaluating how and what you learned.

    2) Write a 700 word essay addressing the following items.

    I. In 2-3 paragraphs, explain your topic. Demonstrate that you understand this topic and use the resources available to you. Cite your textbook, lectures, or whatever sources you use in your paper.

    II. Explain why you chose this topic. What about it resonated with you? Why was this theme personal or relevant to you?

    III. Explain the impact of your topic or theme on modern America. What should Americans learn from this experience? What did you learn?

    Paragraphs should be well developed and arguments supported with historical evidence whenever possible. Since this is a reflective essay, you may use the personal voice in your writing.

    Papers should be typed, size 12 font, and double spaced.
