Designing a Simple WAN: Discussion & Solution

Step 1: Research data WANs, VoIP networks, and wireless networks. Analyze the complexity of a WAN design that includes VoIP and wireless technologies.
    1. Determine where to properly place components/devices in a WAN that includes VoIP and wireless integrated networks.
    2. Determine how your WAN design will integrate with your LAN design from Topic 5.
    3. Provide a rationale and cite your sources using APA style.

Step 2: In the Discussion Forum titled for this activity, discuss the components, topology, and cabling required for your WAN design that includes VoIP and wireless networks.
    • Create a detailed list of components that you plan to use in your WAN design.
    • Describe precisely the components you will use and where to place each for the integration of your LAN design with your WAN design including VoIP and wireless technologies.

Note: The following components may be used for your particular WAN design, if applicable. However, this list is not exhaustive. You may need to include additional components for your network design as appropriate.

    Components
    • Wireless Access Points
    • VoIP Components
    • Peripherals
    • Hubs
    • Routers
    • Switches
    • Firewalls
    • Network devices
    • Topology
    • Cabling/wireless

Step 3: Create a WAN design diagram similar to the following which includes VoIP and wireless technologies with the components clearly labeled showing the integration with your LAN design. You will need to change the components in your LAN design to integrate with VoIP components. For example, you will need to change your LAN design to integrate with a WAN which includes a VoIP telephone connected to a workstation.
