Understanding Business and Management Research Methods

NOTE=PLEASE CAREFULLY READ ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS
NOTE=I NEED AN ELECTRONIC COPY OF THE ACADEMIC ARTICLE USED.
    The Task:
This individual assignment has two parts. Part 1 requires you to write a critical review of a published academic article on HEALTHCARE SECTOR(PUBLIC OR PRIVATE). Part 2 requires you to collect and analyse primary data on the SAME topic and write a mini report. The combined word limit for both parts is 3,500 words, excluding the references and appendices.
Part 1: Evaluating Published Research    (40% of marks)
Choose an article that has been published in an academic journal since 1 January 2007 and write a critical review of the article (maximum 1,200 words) using the Harvard system of referencing. The word count excludes the references and appendices.
Your critical review should summarise the article, include some definitions and, preferably, some challenging research questions relating to the topic. Your review should also include an evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of the article and suggestions for improvement. You are advised to use the references at the end of the article as a guide to further reading. This will broaden your knowledge of the concepts discussed in the article and your analysis will be informed by the literature.
It is your responsibility to choose an article from a high quality academic journal (NOT a professional journal such as Management Today or The Economist). An important objective of the course is to develop your ability to evaluate other scholars’ research. You will find it easier to earn marks if you choose an article that reports an empirical study that analyses research data based on observation or experience (e.g. the quantitative analysis of data from a survey of people or documents or a qualitative analysis of interview data).
This assignment offers the opportunity to think about a topic for your dissertation. It might be useful to choose an article that deals with a familiar subject or one that is of particular interest to you. It will also help you develop your analytical and reflective thinking skills.

Collect and analyse primary data from the Healthcare sector (public or private) on the same topic as the article you have reviewed and write a mini report (maximum 2,300 words) using the Harvard system of referencing. The word count excludes the references and appendices.
This task requires you to conduct an in-depth investigation into the topic that is the subject of your chosen article (NOT the article). You should describe, analyse and critically reflect on the topic. You are expected to include definitions and identify potential gaps in the literature and major research questions that need to be addressed in the future. Emphasis should be given to the following issues:
    •    Ability to identify a diverse and high quality sources of information (a minimum of 50 references are required from different sources). These should include: academic journals/ books/ trade publications, government and industry data, websites, professional newspapers etc.
    •    Demonstrate clear understanding and synthesise the available information in order to gain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the industry
    •    Ability to discuss complex information clearly and concisely, and to construct coherent and logical arguments
    •    Ability to present your findings in a professional and well structured report format, including the effective use of figures, tables, appendices and referencing (Harvard Style is required).
You should adopt the following structure for your mini report:
Title page – Show the title of your report, your student number, the name of your course and the School, the submission date and your word count
    Table of Contents Executive Summary
    1.    Introduction
    2.    Literature Review
    3.    Methodology
    4.    Findings/Results and Discussion (this part should include a critique of the healthcare sector including business applications).
    5.    Conclusions – Include limitations and recommendations
References – Do not number this section. Do NOT use Wikipedia as a reference. Appendices – If appropriate

For further guidance on what to include in each section of your mini report, see Bryman & Bell Chapter 27. Also, further guidance can be obtained from the Postgraduate Office leaflets on report writing, adapted to take account of the foregoing requirements.
You should use 1.5 line spacing throughout the text. Tables, figures and the references should be single spaced. Use 12 pt Anal or Times Roman fonts
    CHECKLIST
The following checklist focuses on the key requirements you need to achieve to complete your assignment. Before you submit your work, check that you can answer ‘yes’ to each of the questions.
    Research Problem Formulation
Is the research problem sufficiently important? Is it likely to produce new or useful information? Is the problem complex? Are prior theory and empirical work explained clearly? Are the predictions stated clearly? Are the predictions logically justified?
    Literature Review
Does the investigator demonstrate familiarity with pertinent literature? Is the literature review comprehensive and well organised putting forward and clearly the concepts/frameworks the investigator aims to explore?
    Methodology
Is the chosen methodology the most appropriate to address the main research question? Is the proposed research overly involved, with too many elements under simultaneous investigation? Are an unmanageable number of independent or dependent variables included? Is the description of the research design sufficiently clear and specific to permit rigorous evaluation? Does the investigator demonstrate familiarity with pertinent methodological literature and techniques? Are controls adequately conceived and described? Are the data the investigator proposes to collect suited to the research objectives?
    Data Collection
Are data collection plans realistic? Do they raise ethical issues? Are plans offered for ruling out alternative explanations for results?
    Findings/Results
Does the investigator summarise the findings in a concise manner? Are the findings well articulated and discussed within the literature?
    Recommendations
Does the investigator offer recommendations for further research and are they justified adequately? Does the investigator suggest policy recommendations based on the findings? Are they well argued?

For the sources, the second part of the report needs 50 and the there isn’t an exact number told for the first part. All the information is provided in the order. My request is please carefully read all the instructions because this is a vital part of my studies.
