UCLA application essay

    Prompt: “UCLA Anderson is distinguished by three defining principles: Share Success, Think Fearlessly, Drive Change. What principles have defined your life and pre-MBA career? How do you believe that UCLA Anderson’s principles, and the environment they create, will help you attain your post-MBA career goals?” (750 words maximum)

    Background:
    – I grew up in Irvine, California. The city is known for its school district quality and low crime rate (it has the nickname of “The Bubble”)
    I think it has made me more positive and carefree.

    – My favourite quote ever since high school is “Pleasure is the only thing to live for. Nothing ages like happiness” by Oscar Wilde. (Please use it in the essay =)
    It’s not because I am selfish or fear taking on responsibility, on the contrary, because life is short so it is more important to do things that you truly like instead of pursuing the vague idea of “happiness”.

    – I have always been very aware to be eco-friendly from a young age. I recycle and never use plastic bags.
    (Environment is important)

    – I came across the idea of “zero waste” a couple years ago and decided to take things up a notch. Partially because as I get older, I start to realized that I want to give back to the mother Earth and make this world a better place. I as one person probably will not be able to “change” the culture suddenly and make everything “eco-friend” and “green”, but that is only the now and current me… You have to start somewhere and hopefully in 3 years, or 10 years I will be in a position to assist people in living a green life.

    – My interests: Clean energy and electric cars.
    I would like to connect the 2 concepts: “convenience” and “eco-friendly”
    For example, if clean energy/ solar energy is more common and if more gas stations offer them, people will be more inclined to purchase an electric car”
    (That’s what I would like to do after business school)

    -I have plans to finish my education before I am 30. As such, I believe it is time I start taking responsibility and stop behaving in an immature manner. Anderson is the perfect place to learn, their customized track provides learning in sustainability market, and tech leadership. It also offers business foundation, one need to study marketing. The school’s three defining principles create a good environment that will enable me to achieve my post-MBA career goals with ease. For one, the principle of driving change will enable to make the world a better place. People need to change their perception towards recycling. They also need to rethink their day to day practices to avoid wastage. This requires change. As such, the principle will enable me to understand ways through which I can ensure change among people.

    – I am not quitting my current job because it is not good enough for me. On the contrary, I want to take a new path that stands to benefit the society at large. The MBA is intended to prepare a path that I can use to pursue a career in achieving zero waste. I wish to concentrate on leaders in sustainability and the specific class will be green energy entrepreneurship. Currently, I have the accounting and finance background (undergrad: math and management science and 5 years accounting work experience). I intend acquire marketing skill, sales skills, and tech skills. Specifically I have plans to understand the product technology and the people dynamics. Equally I plan to improve my understanding in relation to how to sell products.

    – I still hold my motto very close to my heart, and I think it is only fair that I make sure the future generation have a choice too (If they want to pursue pleasures in life, then we have to make sure that the earth is in good shape)

    – Essentially, I now derive great pleasure in bringing happiness to mother earth

    – Not to sound arrogant, but I wish to obtain the necessary skills and techniques from Anderson because it is the best in this “green technology” field. I have confidence that personality-wise I will be able to embrace any challenge and remain calm and level-headed.
