    SYNTHESIS PAPER INSTRUCTIONS
The purposes of this assignment are to:

    • Demonstrate proper use of current APA style in a term paper.
    • Demonstrate proper use of one of the research methods studied in this course—specifically, the case study.
    • Reflect on what you have learned in this course.
    • Reflect on the course content as critiqued from a biblical, Christian perspective.

Instructions: Using a case study approach, write a 4–8-page research-based paper using yourself as the research subject by answering the assigned research questions:

    • What have you learned about research at an introductory level?
    • How do you evaluate or critique this from a biblical, Christian perspective?

You will use the APA skills that you honed during Module/Week 1, the case study skills you developed in Module/Week 6, and all the content you studied throughout all the modules/weeks of this course. APA style needs to be demonstrated in all aspects of this assignment.

Include your properly formatted title page, references page, the body of your document with proper citations, and levels of headings. Be sure to cite enough references to sufficiently support your paper. Maintain consistency between your citations and references page. The 4–8-page body of your paper is in addition to the title page and references page.

You may use your Discussion Board Forum posts, your answers to previous short essay quiz questions, and additional personal reflection. Your answer is not going to be just like anyone else’s answer, and that is what is expected.

Your assignment will be checked for plagiarism.

Note: Some matching on the Learn Assignment report is not unexpected. You will be citing sources that others may have used in other papers, so some matches might appear. The faculty member will be able to discern what is appropriate matching due to properly cited sources. This assignment is open-book/open-notes, open-Bible, open to discussion with friends, etc. Be sure to document your sources when you use the textbook or other material from this course, personal interviews with friends, etc.

Submit the Synthesis Paper by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Monday of Module/Week 7.

Hello Jamie, I agree with some of your responds mainly the part where you stated the these Principles are like the 10 commandments. It basically gives the Psychologist a guide line to go by. I also did read where you stated that Psychology do not focus on faith but instead focus on a scientific approach. This is true, so what I always do is request a Psychologist thats a Christian because that is my preference. I think its important that Psychologist needs to be able to serve all populations rather they believe in Christ or not an be careful with their recommendations to the client if they don’t believe in Christ it might cause the client to resist any further help from the client.

I have to agree with your responds to the discussion in reference to “integrity”. I deal a lot with Psychologist an it is important that they up hold the integrity of the business especially concerning HHIPA. This is very important to me because anyone can try to find out if you are seeing a Psychologist and then try and pass judgment on you. You need to feel comfortable when you see your psychologist an not have to worry about who will find out your personal business or who can gain access to it. Like Kristen stated in here responds that a Psychologist should always strive to have a healthy relationship with their patients.

The verse that I have chosen that supports the application one of Ethical Principles of Psychologist and Code of Conduct of APA is in Exodus 20:15 : Thou shall not steal. I believe this supports standard 6 in the ethical principles of psychologist and code of conduct of apa which is” record keeping and fees”. I mainly paid close attention to 6.04 (c). In this sentence it stated that “Psychologist do not misrepresent their fees”. This is very important because I believe that all clients like to know what they are going to be charged and usually this is before service is rendered. This allows a client to compare prices so they can make a clear decision rather to do business with the psychologist or not. I also choose this verse because to misrepresent your fees is a form of stealing from the client and/or sometimes insurance company depending on how the client is paying. I have been to a psychologist an I always ask what there fees are an hour since most psychologist bill by the hour. I also ask when does that hour start, I feel this is important because sometimes on your first visit they will have you filling out documentation that could have been mailed to you and bought in at time of appointment. A honest Psychologist should always make known to their soon to be client all charges their should never be hidden fees or fees that the Psychologist can’t explain.
In conclusion, reading these Principles I have realized that just based on my daily interaction with Psychologist that these principles are not always practice. I myself have had my children records with held due to a payment not received so these rules is important to know because it also allows a client as well as a Psychologist to know what is not allowed in the practice of Psychology.

    Hello Cailynn,
I enjoyed reading your response an had to agree with your interpretation of the two proverbs verses that you explain. I must say that I am the victim of “zeal”. This is a flaw I must work on this because if I don’t as you stated it will consume me every time. I can honestly say for me it’s shopping, I go for one thing and always come out with more and then I have spent more money than I intended. I also like how you stated “we have two ears and one mouth for a reason” to listen more than we speak. This has also been one of my weaknesses. I have learned with age to think before I talk and sometimes its best just not to say anything at all.

Hello Rachael, I enjoyed reading your response. I agree with your insight on the two proverb verses that you chose. Like you stated in your response any research that is poorly done can affect others in society. This is true because we all await for some type of research to be done for any issues we may be facing so we can possible be cured of a situation or illness. I feel that society depends on research in a way to help find answers, so Psychologist need to remember that what they report will affect other people life in a positive or negative way.

In this discussion we were to chose 2 Bible verses out of the 4 and while reading and explaining these verses think of them under the context of research and identify an explain the insights that I notice. I chose for my first verse ,Proverbs 18:13 an it states: He who answers a matter before he hears the facts-it is folly and shame to him. This Proverb verse stood out to me because the first part is very important in terms of research it stated “He who answers a matter before he hears the facts”, that is basically stating make sure you do your research an get all the facts from the necessary parties involved and investigate that information. I also feel that its stating that if you make a decision before you do any research of the facts than you are considered being looked at as a fool or having no understanding of the situation.

My second verse that I chose was Ecclesiastes 12:13 an it states: All has been heard; the end of the matter is: Fear God [revere and worship Him, Knowing that He is] and keep his commandments, for this is the whole of man[the full, original purpose of his creation, the object of God’s providence, the root of character, the foundation of all happiness, the adjustment to all inharmonious circumstances and conditions under the sun] and the whole [duty] for every man. I chose this verse because I feel that in order to fear him you must first know him an the only why you can do this is by researching him by studying the Holy Bible. It also states” to keep his commandments” an for someone to do this they must know the commandments. So this verse is chosen because it’s instructing you to research the lord so that you can get to know him and fear him and do what he instructs us to do.

Hello Jamie, I enjoyed reading your thread an I agree with your version of godly research. I also liked how you mentioned the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. This was a great example of ungodly research. These men was left to suffer and was lied to during the entire process. Science have been known to “sacrifice many just to save

a few”. I once saw a man who still carried the scars of this type of research, this man scalp was so scared that he had to wear a hat because you could see his brain. There are many stories in our country where people still suffer from the scars left behind after being subjected to cruel research.

Hello Amie, I had to response to your comment because while I was typing my response I also thought of Hermaphrodites. I have research the situation of hermaphrodites and have learned that even doctors states that all humans are born either male or female. When a child is born with sexually organs that can not be identified or born with what appears to be two sex organs the doctors must then do further research. Doctor’s have given children xrays or check their chromosomes which can further reveal what sex they truly are. A male child does not have a womb nor a place where a womb should be, a female child would have a womb so the doctors will fix the child according to the outcome of testing. I do understand that as a christian we should not judge an I apoligize if you took my information as a form of passing judgement but by no means was I doing that. However, I highly believe that as a christian it is my job to inform mankind with the truth an based upon the word of god he only created male or female. I do appreciate you bringing up this thought because it gave me the chance to explain my point in further detail.

Hello Nikeshia, I enjoyed reading your response and I do agree with the first statement you made in reference to research being godly. Like you stated some research can be used in a positive matter such as finding cure’s for life threating illnesses. I think the most important points in research is making sure no one is killed nor harmed in the process of researching . I also read your answer to statement 2. I would have to disagree with you about the comments you made about animal testing. I feel that when it comes to animal testing I feel that animals should be tested if science see a need for it. Futhermore, I feel animals are here for this reason to serve the human’s in every capacity even if it means uses them for some research studies that might seem to be ungodly.

Statement 1:Research methods can be godly
Can research methods be godly? Yes I believe that research methods can be godly but this is determined by how and what is being researched. It is stated in Proverbs 25:2″it is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out. I believe that this verse is telling us that somethings are concealed by God from us and its ok to search them out but we have to be mindful of how we search and what we are searching for.
Statement 2: Research methods can be ungodly
I believe that there are some researches that are done that are considered ungodly. I feel that the research thats being done on the trans-gender population is considered ungodly because this research is stating that people are born with the ability to chose there preferred sexual orientation. Science has stated that some humans are born in the wrong body in other words a male child believing he is suppose to be a woman and a person born female that believe’s there really suppose to be a male. This has been going on so frequently that research have been done to support this form of thinking. These individuals have been encourage to live out these mental fantasies by even going as far as to change their body parts to help support this form of thinking. I feel this is ungodly because it states in Genesis 1:27 “So god created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. This verse reminds me that God don’t make mistakes everytime a human child is born the sex is already chosen. It is our job as humans to except this and not researches job to find a reason to think other wise.

Hello Mandy, I enjoyed reading your response it was very informative. I must say that after reading your response it help me to further understand what Qualitative research is. I believe that both Qualitative and Quantitive if used together is a more effective way of getting the best information. The reason why I feel this way is because I believe both can be manipulated. I think if a questionaire was followed up by a interview or just observation than the researcher would probaly catch any information that was misrepresented. So once again your response was done excellent. Thank you for your response.

Hello Deborah, I enjoyed reading your response. I found your post to be interesting especially the comment on Quantitative research. I also feel that Quantitative research method is better because I love filling out surveys an I think people would rather give information that way. I must say though that surveys and statistics can also be manipulated by people just putting down random information and not being honest when filling out the questionaires

    Statement 1
Qualitative research methods are the best because they deal with clients own opinion in their own words. I feel that by research being put in the clients own words it makes the research appear to be more expected as the truth. It states in our text book” The Method of behavior research” that “the data in naturalistic observation studies are primarily qualitative in nature; that is, they are the descriptions of the observations themselves rather than quantitative statistical summaries. Such qualitative descriptions are often richer and closer to the phenomenon being studied than are statistical representations”. It seems to me that people prefer others opinion in words verses just numbers and also prefer a more comfortable setting.
    Statement 2
Quantitative research is the best because it does not allow for people personal opinions. In Quantitative research the researcher concentrates on a hypothesis and on statistical information to prove or disprove its results. When it come to quantitative research researchers can get people to do these types of research because it usually can be presented in a form of a survey. I love doing surveys because I can go through them quicker and with this type of research a researcher can sometimes take information from your local city hall where archival research can be done.
