    ELEMENT 1: SHORT ESSAY PLAN

    Word count: 150-­‐200 Words (no leeway) Submission: Week 8

    The Plan MUST be completed no later than Week 5.
    You do not submit the Plan in Week 5.
    Issues you MUST address:

    Issues/Arguments that you will be discussing in the Essay.
    Any areas that you be finding challenging ie. the research/referencing component.
    Any deadlines that you have put in place for yourself i.e. the first draft of the essay will be finalised by week 6.
    Further Information:

    The Plan is worth 3 marks.
    If a student requests an extension of time, they MUST submit their Plan with the request. If no plan is provided, then the request will be automatically refused.
    A ‘sample’ Plan will be provided to students (via CloudDeakin) in Week three (3) with the release of the Essay question.
    ELEMENT 2: ESSAY

    Word Count: 1300 words excluding citations, quotations, footnotes and bibliography (10% leeway).

    You are expected to conduct your own research on the topic. There is no limit as to the number of resources that are to be used.
    The textbook is not to be used as a reference.
    You must reference your essay in accordance with the Australian Guide to Legal Citation (AGLC). Marks will be deducted should you use the Harvard referencing style or any other referencing style.
    A bibliography must be provided.
    The MLC101 Legal Referencing Information Sheet provides further information.
    Important Information:

    The Plan and Essay are to be submitted together as one document on or before 11.59 pm on Friday January 15, 2016 (Week 8).
    Late submissions WILL NOT be accepted and marked.
    No extensions without the prior permission from the Unit Chair.

    Further Information:

    The Essay is worth 17 marks.
    The Essay must have an introduction and conclusion.
    It should be typed and presented in a professional manner. The typed assignment MUST only be in ‘WORD’ format (no pdf or any other format). Assignments submitted in another format WILL NOT be marked and allocated a mark of ZERO.The submission area will open one (1) week before the due date.

    Paragraph spacing – Double
    Margins – 2.54cm (all sides)
    There should be a title page and it must include:
    a. your name and student number
    b. word count
    The marks and feedback will be released within 15 working days from January 15, 2016.
    All assignments MUST BE submitted to Cloud Dropbox. Email, faxes, and hardcopy submissions will not be accepted.
