Comparative Foreign Policy – Coursework:
Task: To Complete a Critical Review of the Foreign Policy role of John Fitzgerald Kennedy (JFK) through one of his biography.
Length: 2000 words
Deadline: 1st May 2016
Can students please choose a biography of the 35th President of the U.S. President John F. Kennedy’s. Can students only choose a formal piece of work in the form of a book (at least officially) by him or where there is a notable number of works outlining his career.
Required readings:
Sorensen, Theodore C., Kennedy: The Classic Biography, (2009, 1965);
Schlesinger, Arthur M. Jr., A Thousand Days: John F. Kennedy in the White House, (2002)
Students are asked to consider:
(i): providing a short critical assessment of the reflection and performance of JFK as outlined in his biography;
(ii) including (briefly) issues of corroboration and falsification, by examining a wider variety of sources, particularly those from works of Foreign Policy Analysis (FPA) that have provided external critiques of commentaries of JFK either via a particular analysis of an event, episode or through analysis of the figure.
(iii) provide a short commentary on which FPA approach would be most appropriate to consider aspects of the role of JFK as a foreign policy leader, and what such an approach (FPA) may offer to undertaking such a critical review.
Marking guide:
Demonstrates knowledge of the material (the key readings);
