Following is the format you are required to follow. Make reference to the Resources to support your conclusions FORMAT: 1) Give the title of the play, date you saw it and where. 2) Explain the meaning of the play. What was it trying to say? NOTE: Each area should be a separate heading of your paper. For example, after you’ve introduced the name of the play and the location and time of the performance, you begin your paper — HEADING 1 — MEANING: You give me the theme of the play. For example, Good over evil. Love conquers all. Then tell me how you reached your conclusions. HEADING 2 – SETTING: You then discuss the production values of the play. How were they? What were they trying to do? Did they succeed? How? Remember to include lighting and sound. Evaluate them all and tell me how you reached your conclusions. HEADING 3 – ACTING: Did the actors achieve what they wanted? What did they want? How do you know? What did they do to lead you to your conclusions? HEADING 4 COSTUMES: How were the costumes? Did they achieve what they wanted? What did they want? Evaluate their effectiveness and tell me how you reached your conclusions. OVER-ALL: Finally, in your opinion, was it a successful evening? 15 points extra credit per the URL of any Los Angeles review of the play you’re reviewing. Revision instructions for the writer (only writing instructions, which will be sent to the writer, no administrative questions):
I have more papers in this class to assign to you. If you can’t do this revision soon please let me know. The paper is due 3/7. Shouldn’t be hard, just add some references and don’t have to be very good. I will upload the resource that you can refer to.
From the teacher:
Your first review was very well organized and detailed. However you missed the requirement to support your conclusions with with references from the resources provided in class.
It is possible you are confused when the supplied format asks that you draw conclusions about the production and then “”Make reference to the Class Resources to support your conclusions.”
If you look at the format of the review you’ll see that I’ve broken it down into five general headings: meaning of play, setting, acting, costumes, over-all evaluation.
First, here’s what I mean by “support” your conclusions. Supporting a conclusion can be looked at in one way as ‘defending’ your conclusions. For purposes of this class, it is assumed that you are not an expert in theatre. Therefore, whatever you say about theatre is easily dismissed unless you can find some expert within the provided material in the modules who guides your standards of measurement; So, instead of simply saying, “I liked such and such because I thought it was good,” I am asking that you go on and add “and I’m using so and so’s standards of measurement as what, are the elements of being good in that particular discipline.” You would then cite the quote or reference. This takes you beyond someone who says they like something simply because they do, to having you become someone whose opinion is knowledgeable and well -considered.
To do this, you must read the material in the modules.
I also have provided links to go to for information on how to cite references. Those links will also show you how to write a “Works Cited” page.
Remember, the Syllabus states among other things that — The purpose of this course is to study, compare, and analyze the individual disciplines involved in current professional practice …..
If you look at the modules, you will see that modules 4 through 8 cover all aspects of those individual disciplines involved in current professional practice.
