    Primary Source Assessment #2 – Civil Rights, Freedom and the Constitution

    Read Chapter 24 and the following documents in your textbook on pages 762-763 : Martin Luther King, Jr., “Speech at Montgomery, Alabama” (December 1955) and The Southern Manifesto (1956).

    Answer the following question: How did Martin Luther King, Jr. and the signers of the Southern Manifesto differ in their understandings of freedom, Christianity, and the role of the federal government in eliminating Jim Crow in public schools and accommodations at the dawn of the Civil Rights Movement?

    Responses are due on April 27, 2016 at 6 p.m. Please submit your paper in a separate Word document.

    Guidelines: Your response must be a minimum of 700 words in length, typed, double-spaced, and submitted electronically on Blackboard in a separate Word document. Late papers will not be accepted without a valid excuse (Doctor’s note, funeral, etc.). Please proofread and spell check your paper to maximize your grade.
