The distribution of forces in a statically indeterminat

    The distribution of forces in a statically indeterminate structure is not uniquely determined by statics alone. Consequently a designer has a range of options to ensure a safe system of loading and balanced equilibrium.
    A client proposed steel truss structure is shown in Figure 1.

    Obtain a possible distribution of forces in equilibrium for each member in the truss by ignoring one group of diagonal members. Sign convention = compression positive.
    Obtain another possible system of forces in equilibrium with the applied load by ignoring the diagonals considered in (i) and reinstating the omitted members.
