Topic:What makes a small business Entrepreneur successful?
Task Details:Students are to write a 2000 word (+10%) report
examining whether there is any one factor that will determine the success or
failure of an entrepreneur.
Students are to choose one
(1) successful small business entrepreneur (1000), and one (1) small business
entrepreneur whose business has failed (1000)from the websites given
below. Students need to analyse how the chosen entrepreneurs success and
failure fits with the theory both in the text and academic journal articles.
From these examples and the theory, students need to draw some conclusions as
to whether there is any one reason a small business entrepreneur will succeed
or fail.
Stories of unsuccessful small
business entrepreneurs can be found at

A mix of successful and
unsuccessful stories can be found at
http://www.makingittv.com/EntrepreneursConfession.htm
All information and theory
sources need to be referenced correctly using in-text Harvard presentation
(Family Name Date) – either APA or Chicago styles are acceptable, and a
correctly constructed reference list.
Please note entrepreneurs need
to be considered small business entrepreneurs, so entrepreneurs such as
Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, Richard Branson etc. will not be considered to meet
the assessment criteria, and will probably result in a fail grade for the
assessment. If you are in doubt as to whether your chosen entrepreneurs meet
the assessment criteria, please check with your tutor.
Research Requirements
Students are to support their
analysis using a MINIMUM of 4 academic journal articles plus the text.
Grades higher than a pass will only be awarded if more than the minimum number
of academically acceptable sources are used. Articles chosen need to be recent
(written since at least 2005) and relevant to both the topic and context of the
assessment task.
Additional non-academic sources
may also be used, however students need to show an understanding of their
validity. Sources such as Wiki…, scribed.com, docstore.com, etc. are not
consideredacceptable sources and should not be used – use of such sources
may result in a fail grade.
