Students often overlook the requirement for addressing the need for a lot of “groundwork” to get employees “Ready to accept” actions necessary for making significant changes. Be sure to deal with this issue as you respond to this Essay assignment.

It will also be important to relate this issue to your Discussion Board input.
If anymore information is need please feel free to contact me. the best way is through my cell. thank you.

Read the discussion board assignment for week 6 chapter 10 very carefully. Once you have refreshed your memory of this situation, study the three leadership models, Fred Fiedler Contingency Model and the Situational Leadership Model (Hersey Blanchard, Path Goal Model), pp.304-310. Briefly describe each of the three models. Select the model you think will work best to get the employees to accept management’s ideas on improving the operations of the company. You must support your selection with logical analysis.
My professor doesn’t have week 6 discussion open still now that we’re in week 7. I am going to ask him to open it back up so I can provide this information.

    Chapter 13 Questions

This assignment will require some thought and imagination on your part. You are expected to describe two situations which you observed or have some detail knowledge, in which a "message" (consistent with the "communications process") was sent but the receiver failed to respond as the sender intended. You will be operating under a MAJOR ASSUMPTION, communication only takes place when the "receiver" of the message receives, understands and acts consistent with the intentions of the sender. This assumption appears, to me at least, to be supported by the content of the "Communications Process". Example, suppose you are given a package and are told to take it to the post office by 3PM, send it via overnight mail, return receipt requested and insure the package for 1,000 dollars. Under the "assumption" you are working, "communication" only takes place if you perform all five steps exactly as instructed. You do not have to agree with the "assumption" but for this exercise you must operate as if you do.

    a. Study the communications process (pp. 328-329) carefully. Assuming, as the model implies, the process begins with a

"sender" and concludes with a "receiver", what point in the process, in the examples you provide, is most

vulnerable to a breakdown. As noted above, in order to respond, you are expected to describe at least two situations with which you are

familiar in which the "intentions" of the sender did not take place. In other words, the communication’s process broke down.

Your examples may be between either two individuals, an individual or organization, etc. Once you have described the situation, identify where and why the "brake down" in the process occurred. You may want to review the "barriers" and "technology issues" if they apply. How would you have handled the situation differently?

Remember, the brake down point, reasons for the brake down and how it might be corrected will likely be different for your two examples.

    b. Would increasing the use of "advances" in “ communications technology” have a positive or negative impact on the problems you identified in the discussion board scenario. Defend your selection.

    c. Of the seven "Barriers to Communications" discussed in the text, which one presents the greatest challenge to managers in the 21st century business world? You must defend your response with logic and analysis.
