Basil construction has been in existence for the past 99 years and has established itself as one of the region’s leading building contractors. Basil construction offers comprehensive construction services throughout, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, & Dorset.

From its head office in Christchurch the company has a turnover of £80 million and has a management structure that whilst stable is rather deep but has up to now coped with economic pressures mainly from work in progress, and also from voluntary redundancies of some of the long term senior staff.

The company had specialised in the education sector but has with minimal success focused on sheltered housing schemes for housing associations. It does some work for the local authorities together with commercial, industrial retail according to demand.

Basil’s integrated approach involves working in partnership with consultants, designers and subcontractors.

The company operates in two distinct areas:

• Main Contracting – Delivering new construction

• Design and Build – providing a total package of design and construction to client requirements, principally sheltered housing schemes for a housing association.

The company has grown significantly over the last decade; however, little time has been spent reviewing the management practices and processes.
