    Guidelines:

    Six to eight (6-8) pages, double-spaced, 12-point font, plus a Bibliography and/or Works Cited (6-8 academic sources, optional 2 non-academic sources).
    You may go over the page limit by one (1) page.
    At a minimum, three (3) of your academic sources must not be course materials. Academic sources include peer-reviewed journal articles, scholarly books, theses and/or dissertations.
    You may cite up to two (2) non-academic sources, e.g. news articles, magazines, social media, blogs.
    No title page necessary.
    Objective:

    Your topic must explore the interrelationship between media, identities, and politics.
    Your media focus must be a TV series (drama, sitcom, news media – NOT Reality Television); OR film genre (drama, animation, comedy, romantic-comedy, or musical); OR a video game, gaming websites; OR commercial websites (e.g. suicidegirls.com, becauseiamagirl.ca, alllooksame.com, bossip.com).
    Your identities focus can be multiple (e.g. class, race, gender, sexuality, etc.).
    Your politics focus can address any of the following: stereotyping, representation, myths, infotainment, surveillance, interactivity, hegemonic masculinity and femininity, bromance narratives, postfeminism, cyberfeminism etc.
    Example Topics Might Include:

    -Postfeminism, sexuality, and the politics of “choice” in the HBO show Girls.
    -Black/white “buddies” and hegemonic masculinity in bromance films.
    -A dystopian cyberfeminist analysis of becauseiamagirl.ca.
    General Tips:

    This is an argumentative essay. As such, you must clearly state your thesis (argument) and include supporting paragraphs and points.
    You can use sub-headings if it helps you in structuring your writing.
    Your Bibliography or Works Cited page should be placed at the end of your essay.
    You must use in-text citations (MLA or APA) when citing your sources. All sources listed in your Bibliography and/or Works Cited page must be cited in your essay.
    Please number your pages, and give your essay a title.
