Instead of asking if closing Guantanamo was in the best interests of American Security, take a stance on the issue. You could say “Closing Guantanamo was not in the best interests of American Security because of XYZ.” You’ll talk about the “XYZ” throughout your paper. You can certainly discuss the other side of the controversy, but your thesis statement should really show the reader what to expect moving forward.

Was closing Guantanamo in the best interests of American Security?
The detention center in Guantanamo bay has long been a controversial place in the eyes of the international community. In some ways, it had many benefits from a military and security standpoint for the United States, but it also pushed the legal and moral boundaries of United States’ law. As more information was brought to light (aka declassified) the public outcry became larger and more vocal, and international and domestic voices demanded this location be closed. In this paper we will review the decision to close the Guantanamo Bay detention center, and decide if it was in the best interest for American Society.
