As you can see, even between paragraphs there’s only a single space.  So you can check your paper against this sample.  Often, Microsoft Word is set up for one-and-a-half spaces – so you’ll need to fix that. Go to “Format” and click on “Paragraph” and adjust “Line Spacing” to “Single,” and then check the box that says: “Don’t add space between paragraphs of the same style.”

The body of your essay:
I expect to read an interesting interpretive analysis.  I expect to read a polished paper.  Every paragraph you write should offer something new to think about.  Your paper should include relevant, intriguing direct quotations from the text. Respond to these quotes with attentive and sophisticated analysis.  Do not refer to “I” or “me” or “my.”  Focus on the text.  No need to discuss yourself.  Do not summarize the novel.  You should be analyzing it.
There’s no way you can “cover” this big topic as it relates to these two novels.  I’m expecting you to choose some intriguing, relevant moments in these novels to explore – moments that allow you to “show off” your interpretive abilities!
