Scenario “Windmill Apps” Research Paper

You work for an international company, which provides management advice to a number of multinational organisations, such as Al Jazeera, Google, Shell International and a new IT company that develops Apps for smartphones called Windmill Apps.
Your company has been invited to write a report and deliver cross-cultural training to this major new client Windmill Apps.
The client is expanding its international activities and needs to send a manager from Indonesia to Amsterdam, The Netherlands for a 2-year assignment.
The manager to be transferred is female, Muslim and in her mid-thirties from Indonesia. She joined the company four years ago and has performed exceptionally well, earning two promotions in that period. Think very carefully about who your client is and what she’ll need to know.
Company evaluations (which you have been permitted to read) indicate that she has the right skills-set and that she would be an ideal candidate for this assignment. However, no formal training has been carried out, and this would be her first international work assignment. Your company has been invited by the client to deliver a cross-cultural briefing report to this new manager from Windmill Apps. The report should include the following sections but make sure you guide the reader by linking (sub)sections and present the report in a structured way:

    Section A
    1. a brief introduction of a) the current state of globalization and b) the aim of the report on behalf of Windmill Apps
    2. a brief overview of macro-level facts of The Netherlands (e.g., socio-political environment, economic facts, etc.) that are relevant for an executive to know. Useful information can be obtained from The Financial Times, CIA Handbook and government websites.
    3. a brief value comparison of Indonesia vs. The Netherlands based on Hofstede’s work. You should also include a graph as shown in class and add practical advice how this may affect the manager.
    Section B
    4. a very brief critique of Hofstede’s work in the current globalized environment and why we can only use this as a macro-level index (as discussed in the lecture and seminar) followed by a culturally intelligent analysis of the challenges that business and management face, using appropriate cross-cultural theory and the materials from class.
Your subheadings must relate to seminar topics
    • Decision Making
    • Negotiation & Communication
    • Leadership
You CANNOT use Wikipedia and other non-academic sources, unless they are anecdotal or current affairs.
    Section C
    5. a conclusion (summary) taking into consideration section A and B above and three key points of advice, presented as bullet points for impact.

Professional delivery Max word count 2000. Over or under 10% allowed. More than that, you are subject to the critique that you cannot focus (over) or read to little (under) and this will affect your grade. We would like to see that students are able to write succinctly. The skill is to formulate sentences that contain the relevant academic evidence and rigour but make it accessible to a practical context. So, for example: “It is in the interest of any leader to consider the ethical value congruence between employee and organisation (Coldwell et al, 2008) and it requires cultural intelligence to manage value differences between team members from different national backgrounds (Thomas & Peterson, 2015).” So, too few words and obviously the student hasn’t done enough reading and too many words and the student’s work is too descriptive and he/she cannot apply theoretical knowledge in a succinct fashion.
From experience, we will be able to identify if a student is not able to be focused and write for an executive. Ensure you do a grammar & spell check, use a professional lay out with subheadings, include an accurate reference list.
