Your “place of employment” is undergoing a review of its environmental performance. As a consequence, your manager has requested you to verify that the nominated facilities are complying with relevant legislation and disposing/treating waste in a responsible manner. The manager needs to be satisfied that wastes are being disposed of to a facility which is managing them satisfactorily.

REPORT:

The report should contain the usual introductory information as to the name of the site and its location etc. In addition:

Where is it located and who are the main “user groups” of the facility?

What types of waste are accepted, and how do they manage them?

What systems are in place to maximise diversion from landfill?

How can you determine if wastes that your company generates are acceptable for treatment at the facility?

Do they comply with the provisions of any legislation, EXPLAIN – if they do not, how could they comply?

In your view is the facility appropriate for the types of waste that are sent there for treatment/disposal?
Describe why you have determined this.

What charges are applied for the different wastes etc.?

What innovative steps are taken to minimise the impact of the operations on to the environment and any neighbours?

What recommendations would you make to your manager regarding the facility and whether your company should continue to utilise it.
