Sam’s Club V.S Costco
Projects and Presentations will be an exercise in the student’s ability to consume, synthesize, and apply what we will learn in the class and from reading assignments. Students will be assigned three small and one large semester projects during the course of this semester. The three small projects are each about one aspect of marketing. Students are asked in their semester project to investigate one company and explore how that specific company utilizes marketing principles in the day to day activities. The large project will include the selection of one company in the United States or abroad and the investigation of the following questions in its marketing activities:
• How that company plans its marketing strategy
• What are its norms of ethics and corporate social responsibility
• Is the company global, and how does it perceive global marketing
• How the company approaches consumers and businesses
• How the company develops and manages products
• How the company distributes its products
• How the company integrates marketing, communications, advertising and promotions
• What is the pricing process in this company
• How does this company utilize technology in its marketing
• How the company sees its competitive environment
• How competitive this company is comparable to the same in its own industry
• How is the company’s fiscal viability and how much it spends on marketing annually
The semester project has to be submitted at the end of the semester. This project is posted
on Moodle by the students and will be presented in the class on the assigned dates. The Students are asked to critically study other students’ semester projects for improvements. The goal behind these projects is to understand what companies are doing in the real world of marketing and to encourage students to comprehend the application of these principles in business activities. These assignments will appear on the assignment section of your course syllabus. The projects 1, 2 & 3 are smaller and the students are asked to present their findings in the class. The instruction for these projects will be also posted on Moodle.
