Case Study
Description: You will be required to apply a recognised risk assessment method to assess an environmental health or occupational health risk that may be encountered in your workplace or in your professional practice.
To conduct a risk assessment using a relevant case study. The risk assessment should involve the following steps.
Step 1: Background – explain why your chosen case study is of concern, i.e. why a risk assessment should be conducted.
Step 2: Select a risk assessment method and justify why you chose that method.
Step 3: Apply the selected risk assessment method to your chosen case study.
Step 4: Discuss the results including uncertainties, data gaps, etc.
Step 5: Conclusion.
Choose one of the following case studies and load your intended topic and your risk assessment method and email your lecturer by Week 4.
Assess an occupational or environmental health risk that you find significant or important in your field. It can be something relevant to your current work. If you choose a topic related to your current work make sure that you observe the QUT ethical guidelines, http://www.orei.qut.edu.au/
Conduct a process safety risk assessment using publicly available information for off-shore oil drilling in the Carnarvon Basin, Western Australia; or
Conduct an environmental health risk assessment using publicly available information for residents within 2 kilometres of an open cut coal mine.
2000 words maximum. The reference list is not included in the word count. The use of tables and diagrams is encouraged. Appendices should not be included.
