    Paper instructions:

    Assignment 1
    The objectives of this assignment are for students to:
    –    Write a detailed Research proposal, and
    –    Demonstrate understanding and application of the material covered in this course.
    Note: This is a detailed proposal, and students are not expected to conduct the research, but are expected to give details of how the research will be conducted and the reasons why the proposal will achieve the purpose stated.
    Assignment Tasks:
    The research proposal must be developed using one of the following topics:
    1.    Business decision making in the airline industry (or a large corporation of your choice subject).
    2.    Destination marketing (e.g. Image of Adelaide, South Australia as a tourist destination; the role of internet/ promotional brochure as a tool of destination marketing).
    Students Will:
    –    Develop a practical research question/ statement based on the above topics.
    –    Investigate the published material in the area of the research question/ statement – use the academic journals articles, texts, books, magazines, Internet, industry publications, movies, radio, CDs etc.
    –    Decide on, describe and justify the research methodology.
    –    State potential problems or limitations encountered with the proposal.
    Assignments Requirements:
    –    Use a report format with sections as given below.
    –    Length 1500 words (+ or – 10%) – does not include title page, table of contents, reference list, Appendices.
    –    Use at least 10 different academic references (at least 5 of these must be academic refereed journal articles). That is, 10 different sources of information referenced correctly. Students who do not use 10 different academic references (5 of which must be academic refereed journal articles) and reference their work incorrectly will lose 30% from their mark for this assignment.

    Report Format:
    The assignment must be submitted in the following report format with these sections (Labelled with these headings):
    –    Title page- Title of proposal- your name and details- lecturer’s details (as who the proposal is written for) date.
    –    Table of contents- Use section titles that give the reader a clear idea of the content of the report; this provides sign post to the reader.
    –    Introduction- Which must include the research question/ statement, key concepts and definition.
    –    Literature review- Review of the sources of the information, that relate to your research questions/ statement- students are reminded to use a range of sources including academic, refereed journal articles, popular articles, newspapers, internet, etc.
    –    Paradigms underpinning the research- paradigm’s, justification (Why are you using this/these paradigms?), how this will influence the research.
    –    Research Methods- Data sources and data analysis- That is , the research plan which includes the methodology and procedures to accomplish the research objectives, the justification for these methods, limitations, data collection and analysis, sampling, ethical considerations, and validity and reliability.
    –    Communication of the results- How will the outcomes be communicated to whom (identify your audiences and the channels of communication), and why use these forms of communication
    –    Conclusion- A short conclusion which summarises the proposal
    –    References- A list of all material directly referred to in the report
