Research a New York City ethnic enclave- did they achieve political power?

    1. Choose a New York City ethnic community (i.e. Asians in Flushing, Russians in South Brooklyn, the Caribbean community and central Brooklyn etc..) to study. For example it can be a race, religion or sexual orientation group ( LGBT community in Chelsea/Hell’s Kitchen).

    2. Research their history and how and why they settled in the neighborhood they are in. Give a brief summary of how they ended up where they are and the changes that had on the neighborhood.

    3. Describe the current neighborhood they occupy. Where is it, in what borough, and what community boards? What is the median income for that neighborhood? Is it being gentrified and is the community getting displaced?

    4. Most Important: has this community achieve political representation? Are any of their elected officials representing them of their community? If not via actual politicians, are there other ways in which they’ve achieved this?

    5. Provide an example to illustrate your points. As this community had a major issue that receive the tension (NYPD surveillance of the Muslim community)? Have they protested, engage their elected officials or merely suffered in silence? Why or why not? Some of this is research-based but I’d like you to share your personal thoughts and ideas as to why this group has or has not achieved serious political power.
