Reflection Paper (Week 13)

    Smith lays out some ideas about the more nefarious aspects of citizenship and social responsibility. The authors emphasise the role communication and rhetoric play in the establishment and maintenance of conceptualisations of social identity and responsibility marginalising the most vulnerable groups in communities, societies, and/or democracies. This week’s reflection will be comprised of three parts:

    How does Smith explain the intersections between settler colonialism and white supremacy?
    In your opinion, to which extent is the dismantling of white supremacy and (racist) marginalisation part of United States citizens’ social responsibility?
    How should we go about these movements of dismantling, as citizens of the United States?
