Learning Outcomes – LDR Program
The graduate program in Leadership at Siena Heights University seeks to provide a foundation in leadership theory and the opportunities to practice and reflect on the theory in application. The mission of integrating theory into practice is intended to help students facilitate change in their professional endeavors and personal endeavors.
• Communication. The student will enhance existing skills in oral and written communication. Oral communication includes public speaking and platform skills. Interpersonal skills, the art of collaboration, and the development of a professional network to offer and receive professional assistance are components of communication. In this course, you will write papers, participate in discussions and exercises, and share a PowerPoint/Prezi presentation.
• Ethics. The student will demonstrate high regard for the professional ethics of the chosen field of study through discussion and action. In this course, you will be asked to consider the ethical dimensions of research and evaluation processes in higher education.
• Research/Inquiry. The student will demonstrate an interest in and challenge of questioning observations, exploring “truths”, and building a reputation for credibility and integrity through questioning and exploration. In this course, you will be required to analyze research methods related to assessment/evaluation of academic programs and/or institutions as the higher education level.
• Lifelong Learning. The student will participate in practices illustrative of the lifelong learner, one who seeks to further an understanding and integration of theory and practice, formally and informally. In this course, you will integrate evaluation theory into practice.
• Technology. The student will demonstrate proficiency in the use of current technology as an enhancer to study, contemplation, and sharing of information. In this course, you will use a computer to write all papers, use the Internet to access information about your topic, submit assignments via eCollege online course platform, and share a PowerPoint/Prezi presentation of your final project with the class.
• Spirituality. The student will explore personal aspects of spirituality, the essence of life, in the development of a personal philosophy of life. Spirituality includes maintaining a balance among the roles and responsibilities of personal and professional life. In this course, you will be asked to examine how your own personal and professional characteristics align with various higher-education contexts.
• Work Habits, Attitudes, and Values. The student will demonstrate the work practices and routines necessary to fulfill the expectations of a professional. The expectations of a professional include behaviors based on positive attitudes toward the profession, the work setting, professional and work colleagues, and other with whom the professional comes in contact.
