Please answer both of the following questions. State a clear statement at the beginning of each essay and then provide as much specific, detailed evidence as possible in support of your thesis. Remember, an ‘A’ essay will have a clear thesis, contain a lot of detailed examples in support of the thesis, and cite numerous readings from the syllabus. You are encouraged to use research from your group presentations in your essays.

Each essay should be 2 pages long (12 point font, single spaced, 1 inch margins), and the entire exam should therefore be 4 pages long. Fill the whole 2 pages for each essay or you will be marked down.

Each essay should contain a “Works Cited” page (not included in the page limit) that provides full citations for any books, movies, articles cited within the essay. You may use any citation style you wish as long as you are consistent.

Essay Question One:

“Racial minorities in the U.S.—Blacks, Latinos, and Asian Americans—have very little in common with each other because their experiences are so different.” Say whether you agree or disagree with this statement and why.
Essay Question Two:

“The U.S. is now a colorblind or postracial society.” Say whether you agree or disagree with this statement and why.
Note: It makes for a stronger essay if after you make your argument, you also briefly consider what evidence exists for the counterargument.
