Quantitative Research Question Scenario

You are a float nurse in a university hospital. You have noticed that pain in in-patients
is poorly controlled compared to those you have cared for on surgical floors.
You decide that prior to implementing a search of the literature to develop a best practice
strategy, it would be important to demonstrate the prevalence of poorly controlled pain
for all patients in the hospital over a 24 hour period. /

Qualitative Research Question Scenario

You are newly oriented in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). You notice that ICU patient’s
families are affected by the state of their loved ones and often express that they want to
participate in some form of care. You wonder what critical care nurses feel about
this—you decide to initiate a qualitative descriptive study to understand the experience /
of critical care nurses.

2. Next, perform a search of the literature to find a study/ies that best answer/s your
research questions. List one study from each question in APA format. /

3. Document your quantitative and qualitative literature search for your best evidence
using the criteria provided in the week 2 PowerPoint. /
