    Specific purpose: To persuade my audience about (prostitution)

    Next, choose type of organizational pattern that works best for what you what you want to accomplish in your speech. Patterns include: Chronological, spatial, cause-effect, problem-solution, and topical order.

    Since it’s a persuasive speech: Problem solution, cause-effect, and topical work best.

    Central idea: To persuade my audience about (topic) by discussing mp1, mp2, and mp3.

    Example: To persuade my audience that puppy mills are unethical by first discussing the problem (mp1), and possible solutions on the individual level (mp2), and the legislative level (mp 3).

    Now that you have the organizational pattern down–you may begin to do your research to support each of your main points. Remember 4 scholarly sources are required. They must be cited in outline and orally in speech.

    Persuasive Speech (7-9 minutes)

    1. Select a topic that interests you and will interest your audience as you attempt to
    persuade them to believe something or act on something. Organize your speech
    according to one of the 6 persuasive organization patterns (problem-solution,
    chronological, topical, problem-cause-solution, Monroe’s Motivated Sequence, orcomparative advantages). Identify the organizational pattern you selected at the top of your outline.
