The purpose of the literature review is to lay the foundation for your study. Your review should cover studies that lead logically to your hypothesis. What is the unanswered question that you will attempt to answer? You will review the research that has already been done on your topic. Read at least ten research articles on your topic from peer reviewed (refereed) journals. This means that they were only published after a group of professionals reviewed them and found them to be worthy of publication. This will not be an exhaustive literature review but it should be thorough. Not only does the literature review lay the foundation for your study but it also establishes the fact that the study that you are proposing has not already been done. Your sources must be primary sources. That means that the writer is the person who conducted the research. PsycNet is a good database to use to find scientific psychological literature.  Limit your search – Publication Type – to Peer Reviewed Journal.  Library staff can help you if you do not know how to do this.  Always check your sources to make sure that they meet the criteria above. Summarize the findings of these articles and then draw your own conclusions based on these articles.  Spelling and grammar count so please proofread carefully.  I suggest that you also get someone else to read your paper before you submit it.
