Professional Article:
An employee can vastly improve his/her status by publishing articles in trade journals. If an employee in a field of work notices a problem in that field, or notices a better way to perform a specific act that is common in that field, or if that employee thinks a change to a process would improve work being done in the field, or if an employee sees an ethical issue that complicates jobs within that field, then that employee might write up an article discussing that topic. That article might offer a solution to the problem, or that article might just start the discussion in lieu of offering an answer, or that article might just ask questions in order to start a discussion about the topic.
Scientists often conduct experiments and then publish their work in scientific, academic journals. That is a different situation. Those authors would typically be academics who work at a university, and are/or performing work in a scientific laboratory. I am referring to employees in a particular field writing articles that pertain to issues with their actual, everyday work.
Think of an issue that you might one day encounter in your field of employment. Then, think of a solution to that issue. Maybe this is an actual issue that you have faced. Maybe you are taking the bare minimum of knowledge that you have about a field and are making some large assumptions. Maybe you don’t actually know much about your field just yet and want to just make up an issue. All of those options are acceptable. This assignment is about textual composition and formatting of documents, not the delivery of factual information. Therefore, you do not need to generate any of the information through any type of testing procedures. Feel free to invent whatever information you need. Feel free to invent a problem and then invent a solution. If information is taken from another source, though, you do need to give it credit.
