Read the paper by Luigi Zingales, titled “Does Finance Benefit Society?”  Answer the following questions. Use a bullet point format for your answers

The main goal of this assignment is to provoke your thinking on why you are studying finance and how you, with your finance knowledge, can help society. Do not get hung up on the details.  Try to see the bigger picture and think about the bigger question.  I know what the author writes in this paper, so you don’t need to repeat a lot from the paper.  I would be much happier to see your thoughts.
Questions:
1.Based on the paper, list one main benefit of finance for society.  Briefly explain using your own words.
2. According to the author, what is (are) the main reason(s) behind the public’s distain towards finance?  What do you think about the reason(s), that is, are the reasons reasonable or not?
3.Can government regulations solve the problem in #2?  If yes, how?  If no, why not?
4.During this presidential election season, what are the major presidential candidates saying about finance (or Wall Street) and its role in the economy and society?  Do you agree with their (his/her) view?  Why or why not?
5.What can you, a finance student, do to make finance more beneficial to society?
