    1-definition of Practice development (what is practice development?)

    2-Culture of our Organization :
    Our hospital located closely from the city Centre of Mecca (the holy mosque). the weather of mecca is usually high temperature , it could reach 50-55 degrees in most of the year, Mecca is cosmopolitan area and that’s why the workers in ALNOOR Hospital are multinational from Philippine, Indonesia ,Egypt…etc. However, all the employees in the hospital are Muslims. The hospital adopt the western medical system in all policies whether administrative or professional.im working as staff nurse in heart center which include clinics and labs of Echocardiography, ECG, Stress test, angiography

    3-thesis statement:
    Lack of education for patients about the importance of physical activities in the heart clinic.

    Main Body:

    1-Reflecting the problem:
    In our heart center most of the staff whether Doctors or Nurse and Technicians and nutritionist, they don’t educate patient about the importance of physical activities and explain them about the suitable activities to their diagnosis .they just concentrated in impact of smoking , obesity, diabetes, lifestyle stress and diet. Also all the educational brochures and boards contain same topics.
    Some staff take excuse for patients due to limited facilities of health clubs in region and could be expensive if it available, or because of weather which is very hot.
    Limited time for staff due to the overload of patients are seen in this center around 50-60 patients daily so, the staff don’t have enough time to educate PT about everything.
    Because of that routine staff couldn’t feel the priority of the physical activities than others of risk factors of heart disease

    2-importance and priority of physical activities and how its reducing the effect by risk factors of heart disease , as known that 50% of heart disease caused by physical inactivity.
    What other nation for example (UK ,USA) government or ministry of health or any organization did to encourage patients and nation to increase their fitness and physical activities .

    3-how could we do to encourage staff in heart clinic to educate patients about physical activities , and how I can facilitating this issue to make it improve
    suggestions
    I will start by myself and educate the patients and I will let other staff to observe me then they will adopt me
    -increase brochures which talking about physical activities

    Rationale:

    Practice development promotes a practice culture that fosters patient centred care, family care as well as the facilitation of staff. It involves transforming care and services so that they are person centred, safe and effective. This requires the practitioner to develop skills of reflection, leadership; collaboration; facilitation and negotiation within a multi-professional context.

    This level 2 module will provide students with learning experiences that will enable them to reflect on the effectiveness of current practice. Students will be provided with the opportunity to link nursing concepts and practice development within the dynamic of working in organisations. They will also be expected to explore the practice development evidence base and use creative, reflective and facilitative approaches to reflect on or advance their own practice. Practice development is about creating good places to work and ensuring that the best evidence and research informs everyday practice.

     

     

    Aim

    Students will be introduced to the core concepts of practice development, namely improving patient care, transforming the context and culture of care, continuous improvement and realistic approaches to bring about change, and to apply evidence in practice.

    Learning Outcomes

    Students will be provided with the opportunity to:

    • Discuss practice development – The underpinning theories, evidence, processes and outcomes.
    • Experience the use of practice development tools — values clarification, reflection, action learning as a means of developing staff vision and direction.
    • Discuss transforming care.
    • Evaluate the models of reflection available from the literature.
    • Reflect on the culture and context of their organisation.
    • Examine models of professional helping relationships— Facilitation, Action learning, clinical supervision and work based learning.
    • Appreciate the value of the above strategies.
    • Discuss effective leadership, facilitation of change in developing nursing services for patients and their families.
    • Evaluate the outcomes of practice development work.

     

     

    Module Content

    Defining Practice Development:
    Students will be able to define practice development and analyse the theories underpinning the concept. This will assist students to develop an understanding of problem-based approaches to work based learning.
    Reflection:
    Students will explore models of reflection as a key process for problem based approaches to learning, improving patient care and ongoing practice development.

    Culture and Context:
    Culture and context will be examined against the backdrop of clinical governance, continuous service development and risk management policies and practice. The students will develop a collaborative and collective picture of workplace culture.

    Facilitation

    Models of and facilitation (clinical supervision, action learning, adult learning, evidence based learning) will be presented and debated by students.
    .
    Leadership.

    This theme will examine the links between leadership and facilitation. Theories of leadership will be presented and discussed. Government documents and current health care initiatives will be debated.

     

    Outcomes of Practice Development Work:
    Practice development projects will be critically examined by students and benefits/ outcomes identified. Evaluation frameworks will be explored.
