Perceptions of Similarities and Differences in the Nature and Characteristics of Effective Parental Involvement

Q1: The way I define parental involvement is the parents is helping the teachers to help their students
succeed in their education. Parental involvement is support for teacher and child.

Q2: The level of parental involvement is very low due to no emphasis on importance of school. I do not see a
lot of involvement with students. Parents do not come out to events to support the child’s education. When
there is an event the turnout is low

Q3: Ones who stay involved are the ones who want their child to be something in life. They promote higher
education. So that their child can be productive citizens in the community.

Q4: They do not have the education to help their child. The economy… parents must work to take care of
their family. Parents do not have the time to get involved.
Q5: Parents showing that they are proud of what their child has accomplished. Child showing that parents are
proud of them and see encouragement to continue to do better. It makes the child feel good when parents
discuss things with teachers. Especially when expressing their strengths.

Q6: Teachers benefits because parents can help to support teacher with behaviors so students can be
successful in their learning environment in the classroom. We do need support from parents with disruptive
students so we can give students a productive education.

Q7: The school should do incentives for parents; if they participate they receive a reward. The only way to
bring them in is if there come in so many days a month they can get a certificate for a meal, gas. They can
be class mothers, etc it will let then have some type of recognition. Something to look forward to and more
    will come out.

Q8: Parents feel very welcome by staff as far as administration. Throughout hallways and classrooms b/c
administration and staff make everyone feel warm when they enter the building.

Q9: Ask parents to shadow their child, ask parents to observe the teachers in order to understand lesson
objectives. Ask parents to sit with small groups to volunteer to help with struggling kids.

Q10: No I haven’t had anything that didn’t work. Parents only come out when students are not doing well as
    far as academics.

PQ2: Incentives, teachers must communicate with administration and administration communicates with parents
    on a weekly basis.
PQ9: would like to see 90-95% of parents involved in their child’s education. You must give the parents
something “bribe” Bribe to get them involved in their child’s education. It must also be FUN and ENJOYABLE
for parents and the whole family.

PQ10: Parents would like to be acknowledged from teacher and administration on how well their child is doing
in school. They would like feedback and see that you really care about their children. A check in system
weekly, no monthly from administration to let them know that you are here for their children b/c we are the
    parents away from home.
