I. Description of the assignment
The assignment is composed of 3 parts that capitalize on the information and skills you learned in the course operations management in health care. Each part is distinctive; however, all of them require skills you learnt during the course.
Part One
• Using the Steps for Aligning capacity with demand discussed in this course select an activity in your department such as laboratory investigation, MRI scanning, nursing care, ER physician care ..etc.,
1. Forecast demand
2. Use productivity estimates, translate this demand into capacity requirements
3. analyze current level of capacity
4. Estimate the discrepancy between capacity and demand
5. Develop a strategy for aligning capacity with demand
Part two
A. Select two productivity measures related to human resources of your department
B. Calculate the productivity of a sample of two staff using real data for two days each
C. Interpret the results and suggest 2 improvement strategies
Part three
A. Use one of the supplies in your department to illustrate the supply chain in your organization. Start with the need for this item/supply till receiving this supply in your department.
B. Use the following assumption to calculate the re-order point and economic order quantity for the selected item.
a. Carrying costs: 25%,
b. Cost of ordering: 250 AED/order
C. Suggest an improvement strategy to this supply chain based on the operations improvement methodology you studied in this course.
