    ENC 1101: Narration Assignment
Three things to do before you write a single word:
    1) read this entire sheet – it’s in the NARRATION folder
    2) make sure you’re set to double space your paper
    3) have a good title in mind

Do: give it an awesome title, write a good thesis – make sure it’s the last sentence in your intro paragraph, and use figurative language. Read it out loud to your dog before you turn it in.
Don’t: write “you,” “your,” “yourself,” or any other form of “you.” Each Y-bomb will cost you a point. Don’t call it Essay One. No title = no grade.

Narration means to tell a story. And, for this essay, you are to tell a personal narrative–a personal story. Write about a single moment in your life that lasted less than thirty minutes, maybe an hour at the most. Just make sure to focus on something very specific.

You might choose ONE of these:

Write about a moment when someone made fun of you.
Write about a moment in nature that you will never forget.
Write about a moment that changed your life.
stay away from child birth, anything about cruelty to animals, and anything too personal.
    Writing Process:

    Use the Plot Diagram tool
Brainstorm, cluster, freewrite–find ideas–don’t try to take on too much. Read the other handouts in the NARRATION folder and read about narration on web sites and in textbooks. Remember that focusing is the key to this paper.
Outline. Post your outline, introduction, and thesis to the appropriate Discussion Board. See syllabus for due dates.
Create rough draft. (Use chronological order.) Get feedback.
    Revise, proofread, and edit.
    Final draft. (Graded)
    Purpose:

To learn how to arrange details.
To show an understanding for a designated audience.
To demonstrate narrative and descriptive techniques.
To incorporate dialogue (if appropriate). Remember rules to writing successful dialog: http://www.writing-world.com/fiction/dialogue.shtml
To improve writing skills at ALL stages of the writing process.
