I am in the process of applying for adjunct professor positions in psychology and Human Services Departments. for many of the applications I am required to submit a teaching philosophy. I am not experienced in this area and I am not sure exactly what recruiters are looking for. In my teaching philosophy statement I would like it to reflect my progressive and existentialist ideals. I believe that teachers should be flexible in that they should be able to tailor there instructional methods according to the needs of their students as much as possible. Effective instruction is also a collaborative effort between the student and instructor. I would also like to include my belief that teachers are to provide a warm and nurturing environment for student learning while providing structure and implementing all policies and procedures. I would like it to state that I believe in using a variety of mediums, such as reading materials, videos, and personal experiences instructional methods. I intend to help my students to think critically and to apply their knowledge to real world situations. I plan to evaluate students progress through the use of written and oral assignments.
I would like to include my love of sharing knowledge in order to empower my students and include my experience in the field of mental health and have included my resume and cover letter for you to view. I have also emailed a reference for the meanings of educational philosophies (Existentialism and Progressivism). I would like for the teaching philosophy to one page in length double spaced with 12 point font in times New Roman. I hope this helps and gives you an idea of what I am looking for.
