    • Family Structure, Subsystems, and Interactions
    • Family Roles and Responsibilities
    • Family Rules

Once you complete your diagram, answer the following questions.
    1. Describe how the family characteristics, socio-demographics, and structure of your family of origin or of the family you consider your primary family system influence how you live your life now.
    2. How similar and/or different is the systemic role you assume now from the systemic role you assumed as a child?
    3. Describe what you like about the role(s) and responsibilities you have now. Describe what you dislike about the role(s) and responsibilities you have now. If you could change something about the role(s) and responsibilities you have now, what would you change and why?
    4. List six rules you live by now and describe how similar and/or different those rules are from your family of origin or from the family you consider your primary family system.
    5. How might the roles and rules you live by now influence the way you work with children and families? What roles, rules, and responsibilities in other family systems do you think will challenge you the most? What do you think you can you do to address those challenges in an early childhood setting?
