Migration Policy, Law and Enforcement.Requirements

    The aim of this assignment to write a case study on a discrete public policy problem. The case study must contain the following elements:

    – A detailed explanation of the policy problem, including any legal/legislative context that is relevant ( Around 1000- 1,250 words);
    – A critical analysis of at least one and no more than two recent or proposed policy changes ( around 1,000- 1,500 words); and
    – An assessment of the effectiveness of the policy change (s) to address the policy problem, including recommendations for further change, if needed ( around 500-750 words)

    Structure and format :
    The case study should take the form of a report with the use of formal language, headings and paragraphs. There should also be a bibliography, which can include sources not specifically referred to in the case study but used in the preparation of the case study.

    The audience for the case study is a decision maker in a government department who is familiar with the policy problem but no an expert in the area.

    A policy process diagram can also be included as an appendix ( not included in the word limit, but make sure to include a reference to any relevant sources for the diagram).

    Sources :
    You can use a range of sources in preparing the case study. However, special attention should be paid to the following sources :
    – Legislation, including delegated legislation;
    – Case law;
    – Law reform commission reports;
    – Parliamentary committee reports.

    The learning outcomes of this assignment are :
    – demonstrate extensive knowledge of the field of public policy development and implementation and explain, identify, and critically evaluate the key concepts, policies and issues in defined case studies;
    – explain and apply an understanding of relevant legal concepts and aspects of policy analysis to analyzing and solving practical problems and theoretical legal issues in a clear, logical and effective way
    – write in a clear, persuasive and logical style on complex legal and policy issues for the diverse range of audiences found in the public policy process.
