Each student is expected to submit (on Blackboard Learn) a one paragraph (up to 250 words) synopsis of a current global marketing news item over the course of the quarter. This assignment is due by 11:59 pm on Thursday of the week they are due. Please post the synopsis in the assigned discussion thread for current development synopses under Discussion on Blackboard Learn.
Students will be assigned randomly to their current development synopsis week on the first day of class. Students have to find and choose a current development that is relevant to the topic of the week. These may be drawn from periodicals (including electronic periodicals) such as the Wall Street Journal, Fortune, Business Week, the Economist, the New York Times, etc. They should not be older than 6 months. As soon as students decide their current development, they should email the instructor and classmates the link to the news item, so that two students do not cover the same issue; once thus chosen, others cannot cover the same item.
In the current development synopsis, you should briefly discuss:
1. Key facts discussed in the article
2. How the article is related to class material using concepts discussed in class
The current development synopsis is intended to generate discussion among students. It will assume that other students have read the news item and so need only briefly summarize the article (up to 250 words). Students whose current development synopses are being commented on should also participate in the discussion by responding to some of these comments.
