    Assignment 2 – Local Heritage Project
    “A heritage place is like looking through a window into the past – not just the past of the building but of the lives of the whole community.” Discuss by examining a heritage place in your local community. Students should select a listed heritage site in their community (it may be either of state or local significance).

    The question asks about the history of the building and of the community.
    1. Start with heritage database listing from State Heritage Inventory
    2. Break down the inventory into different types of information so you have clues to follow up – property details that will lead to maps, the history section and themes that indicate the broader local context
    3. Build a time line for the site, and integrate that into a timeline for the history of the district (or NSW)
    4. Go for a walk past the site – look at what else is in the street? Are there clues in the setting of the place and the surrounding area?
    5. Look at the maps – has the pattern of roads changed?
    6. Look at local histories of the area to see what was happening in your community. How does this place reflect those activities? (Use the state heritage themes to consider what might have been happening.)
    Incorporate this information about the specific site and its broader community context. Address the question in your own words to produce a written account of approximately 2000 words in length. Your written account may be in the form of an essay, narrative or report.
    It must include an image of the heritage site (photographs or drawings), a map of its location, and footnotes including references to the source of maps and illustrations (not counted in length). You should include a bibliography of items you have looked at (including websites), even if you have not referred to them within the body of your assignment.

    Aims/Objectives
    The aim of this assessment is for the student to demonstrate understanding of the NSW heritage system at work in their local community through identifying a specific site of local heritage and analysing it through investigation of historical records and discussion of its significance and relevance to understanding the history of their community.
    Assessment Description
    Assessment 2 – Heritage Project
    Assessment Requirements
    Students should select a listed heritage site in their community; investigate historical and heritage resources about the site and incorporate this information and assessment into a written account of approximately 2000 words in length, plus photographs, drawings, maps and footnotes, that addresses the question in their own words.

    Assessment Criteria
    1. Demonstrated understanding of heritage listings within the local community;
    2. Appropriate use of relevant primary and secondary materials relating to the history of the area and the heritage system. These materials should be reflected in your bibliography.
    3. Inclusion of supporting evidence in the form of a photograph of the place (current or old) and a sketch of the key building features; a map locating the place; a print out of the heritage listing of the place from the NSW Heritage Branch or local council.
    4. Relevance of content in addressing question;
    5. A coherently written piece of work in your own words
    6. A logical structure with a clear conclusion;
    7. Correct spelling, punctuation, vocabulary and grammar, paying particular attention to the correct century in dates.

    Local Heritage I choose to do:
    I was thinking to do about Granville Town Hall all information below
    http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/heritageapp/ViewHeritageItemDetails.aspx?ID=2240098
    Or you can choose whatever you want from the list on this web http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/heritageapp/heritagesearch.aspx

    As long as you make the assessment look authentic it will be great. All information is on the net but try to make it as I been to the place and observe it myself will be great.
