As one of the obligations as the Corrections Commissioner of the state of Euphoria, I would like to re-assess the qualifications and training’s needed for the position of Parole officer. A parole officer is a correction officer who supervises and counsel parolees through their parole management and during post release supervision. This being said, the new job qualifications for parole officer will be as listed : A bachelors degree in a related field( criminal justice, psychology or human services), 1-2 years managerial experience in completing assigned tasks(education-portal.com) and overseeing day to day activity of your clients. The candidate will also need to pass a physical fitness test, medical testing and psychological testing at one of our personnel assessment centers. The candidate will also need to have some human service experience. The Parole officer trainee will also go through the correction officer training, to obtain the knowledge and skills needed to work with the offenders, incident report writing, security and safety procedures, investigative techniques and supervision of offenders.

The job duties and expectations entail; pre-release contact and risk/needs assessment 30 days before discharge from any correctional institute. This will help the parole officer with looking for community resources to use. Parole officer will have to have weekly face to face contact visits, which will need to be documented in electronic case notes, monitor your clients interactions, assist in rehabilitation through counseling and drug screening. The parole officer will also need to work with the desired community advocates to help with developing community service programs.(Champion,469)

In all words the Parole Officer position is a main part of our community corrections program, so we need to be professional, critical thinkers and a partner with the communities our clients reside in.
