Job Interview Question Development

    I. Purpose
    The employee selection by interviewing is one of the most critical tasks a manager undertakes. 40% of all new hires will quit within the first 6 months of employment and more than 50% of managerial hires will quit their jobs within the first 6 months. High turnover costs a firm an average of $67,000 a year per employee with an annual salary of $45,000. Thus, it is extremely important to select a right person for a firm.

    This assignment is designed to have students to develop interviewing skills as an interviewer. The job for this assignment is the PWCs discussed in the case, ARISE: A DAY SPA.

    II. Required Tasks

    1. Identify competency areas (24 points) required to successfully perform the essential functions that you listed on the Job Description Assignment and the additional functions provided by Dr. Cho and Ethan.
    • The essential functions should be the same as the ones you listed on the job description assignment and additional functions provided by Dr. Cho and Ethan.
    • One competency area can serve multiple essential functions. For example, Self-esteem can affect a person’s ability to lead a team, work with colleagues, and provide good customer service.
    i. Refer to the class notes for examples of competency areas.
    • Must include definitions (basic meanings) of the competency areas.
    • Must include explanation about which competency serve, which job functions.
    • There is no limit on a number of competency areas, but the identified competencies must address all the job functions of PWCs.

    2. Once you have identified the competency areas, you should develop job interview questions (26 points), which will MEASURE the competency areas.
    • Interview questions should measure if a job candidate has the required competencies.
    • Interview questions should measure a job candidate’s ability to perform the essential job functions successfully.
    • The interview questions should include at least
    i. Situational question with one follow-up question, and
    ii. Behavioral question with one follow-up question
    Note: No need to include situational and behavioral questions for each competency area. You will be fulfilled this requirement as long as you have at least one situational and one behavioral question in the assignment.
    • Writing assignments should include the following:
    i. Interview Questions along with competency areas
    1. Provide specific explanations for how each question will measure a competency area and essential job functions.
