Format: MLA format and documentation of sources will be required. This paper will be 4 pages (1000 words), have a clear thesis, introduction, body and conclusion.
Topic: Jesus of Nazareth is one of the most recognized and influential historical figures. His legacy is praised and condemned by different scholars of religion, philosophy, and ethics. Additionally, various world cultures have interpreted his life and message very differently. First, read Matthew chapters 5-7 from the Bible (https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%205-7). From this reading, develop your own impression of Jesus and his message. Second, read “The Other Jesus” and the “Messiah” from the iBook, compare these viewpoints of Jesus. Are there any particular agreements concerning who Jesus was, or what his message meant? Assess the different viewpoints and root out the similarities. After addressing common beliefs from the readings, articulate what commonalities your impression of Jesus (from reading Matthew 5-7) has with the readings’ perspective of Jesus.
Structure: begin with an introduction that outlines the purpose and topics of your essay. Your first body paragraph will address Matthew 5-7 and delineate your impression of Jesus and his message by the text. The second body paragraph will address two viewpoints of Jesus expressed in the reading “the Other Jesus,” and explore the commonalities that they share. The third body paragraph will address the reading the “Messiah” and will further explore the common ideas about Jesus from this unique perspective. The fourth, and last, body paragraph will address your common belief about Jesus with the readings. Explore the similarities your beliefs concerning Jesus has with the above readings. End with a summative conclusion.
