    -Presentation
A 2-minute presentation of the sequence that you deem to be the most important in the
film. Presentations will precede (and, I hope, contribute to) Wednesday discussions. I
strongly recommend limiting your presentation to 1 to 3 screen shots.

    -Need captured screen shots

-analyze the camera angle, lighting, clothing, music, etc

    -Course Objectives
This course examines the 1960s cinematic phenomenon known as the Japanese New
Wave. Beginning with a consideration of the term itself, we will work to define the social
and aesthetic aims of New Wave cinema and its coherence as a movement. Our
discussions will emerge from formal and thematic analysis of films by Oshima Nagisa,
Suzuki Seijun, Masumura Yasuzo, Shinoda Masahiro, and Yoshida Kiju. We will also
strive to situate these films in the social and political context of 1960s Japan, with an
emphasis on youth culture, U.S.-Japan relations, sex, violence, and crime.
