Impact of Corporate Social Responsibility
Paper instructions:
Overview
The study of ethics becomes a purely academic exercise unless one can apply what is learned to professional life. To do this, you must first identify that an issue has potential ethical ramifications and why this is so. Then, you must examine the issue from all sides and from the perspective of all stakeholders. Next, you must evaluate different methods for making ethical decisions and apply one to the issue that produces a fair result. Finally, you need to apply the decision in a workplace environment.
Therefore, as part of the final project for this course, you identify an ethical issue that you would like to see resolved by a corporate policy. You identify why the issue is relevant and why it needs addressing. Next, you evaluate different ethical decision-making models covered in the course. You are asked to choose one model and apply it to the issue you identified. Next, you evaluate the answer that the decision-making model produces.
Ultimately, corporations are formed to make money. So, in the project, you address the general concept of corporate social responsibility and mesh that concept with the corporation’s prime directive of increasing profits. Specifically, with regards to the issue chosen, you need to assess the impact of not having a corporate policy in regards to the issue versus the cost of implementing a policy.
At the culmination of the project, you recommend a policy that addresses the ethical issue chosen and that can be implemented by a company. The policy needs to be specific and address all stakeholders as well as include provisions for monitoring the effectiveness of the policy, for dealing with employees who fail to comply, and for adapting the policy if it needs changing in the future. In recommending the policy, you are expected to argue for your policy with well-reasoned analyses and specific examples. It is expected that in arguing for your policy, you synthesize much of the work done for prior assignments into a cohesive proposal supporting the need for your policy.
