Position Paper on Gun Control

This assignment is a position paper on any topic of my choosing. I chose to write mine on gun control. My position on this topic is against gun control. Basically, the assignment requires that I take a position on the topic, and back up my position with valid supporting evidence. It must be 6 pages, no more, no less. It must have some sources to confirm the information used, properly cited and cited in text as well. My teacher also requires that we write the paper from a more academic perspective – we should not be using “I”, “me”, or “you” in the essay. It should strive to be informal wherever possible. To expand upon my personal position on the topic, I think that we shouldn’t have gun control, and that people are responsible for gun related deaths – not the guns themselves. There are countries such as Switzerland, which requires their citizens to own guns, yet Switzerland has the lowest gun crime rate in the world. On the other hand, Honduras has one of the highest murder rates on the planet, yet they have a total ban on guns. If you take away the guns, people will find other ways to hurt each other. Basically, the paper should expand upon this perspective and provide proper evidence for claims like these.
