    Paper instructions:
she honestly gave no instructions and said to just write a research paper on a topic that interested us.
If you can, see if you can quote at least a few times.
this is my outline I made:
    I. introduction paragraph
    A. thesis: While some countries see the United States as the land of liberty and freedom, the citizens of the territory of Guam have been under the influence of U.S. assimilation tactics and ultimately Guam is being used for political reasons such as military build-up.

1)Out of the 180,000 people who live on Guam and 30% of Guam is U.S. military, the U.S. wish to continue build-up and relocation of troops.
    2) U.S. Assimilation tactics
    II. First supporting Paragraph
    A. Restate subtopic #1
-Obama comes and visits I think in 2010.
-troops being moved to Guam from Japan

–Guam, a U.S. Territory/Protectorate, is a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. There are approximately 200,000 people living on the island, which is made up of about 37% Chamorro (indigenous people of Guam), 26% Filipino, 11% other Pacific Islander, and the remaining 26% are Caucasian and Asian. Currently, the U.S. Military occupies a sizable portion of land, which is approximately 30% of Guam’s prime property. Now, the military is increasing its presence on the island, because Japan wishes to reduce the current US presence in their country. This transfer of military personnel would increase the local population by as much as 25%.

Many of the local people fear negative impacts of the military buildup, such as loss of precious land, destruction to their culture, increased crime rates, increased strain to their ailing infrastructure, and the loss of identity. The military buildup in Guam is a 12 billion dollar effort of the United States and Japan Governments to relocate almost half the U.S.

Marines currently stationed in Okinawa. This means that approximately 8,600 Marines of the 18,000 currently stationed in Okinawa, along with numerous dependents and contractors. The international agreement between the U.S. and Japan provides funding, of which Japan, will pay 3 billion of the 12 billion dollar budget.

-maybe talk about the removal of burial sites, destruction of coral reefs
    B. Create a transition paragraph
    III. Second Supporting Paragraph
    A. Restate subtopic #2
    -spiral of science theory
–news is geared towards positive U.S. ideas and ways
–children in I think it was 40′s were forced to learn English
-Possibly talk about Guam Organic Act

    -Possibly talk about Solomon Report
–Formerly classified, the Solomon Report devised a plan and policy that insured that the US would ‘pump large amounts of money into Micronesia, build a community-service infrastructure, establish a host of development programs and a dependency upon cash, hold a plebescite at the point at which the Micronesians’ hopes had been raised, and then pull back support as the various development programs failed to succeed.”
