Government and Business Paper- Outline
Once you have chosen a business from the above list complete the following:
• Write a brief business profile- •What does your business do? Where is it based? How many people does it employ? Is it publically traded? Etc.
•Summarize the relationship between your business and government- •Discuss recent interactions between your business and government(s). Have there been any major developments over the last few years? Have there been any recent controversies? Has your business recently lobbied government on behalf of a specific public policy? … etc.
•Focus on the recent past (within the last ten years).
•Identify your primary lobbying objectives- •Imagine that you are the CEO. Identify three-six policy objectives that you would like to see achieved. Explain why you chose the specific policy objectives that you did. Be thorough, and cite evidence to support your assertions regarding why the company should focus its efforts on achieving the aims that you outlined.
•NOTE- please make certain to focus on the relationship between your business and government. Don’t write about what changes you would make to the business, but rather what changes you would try and persuade government to make.
•Create persuasive pitches for your lobbying objectives- •In a clear and concise fashion lay out an argument as to why a member of Congress should support the legislation that you would like them to support.
•Create at least one pitch for each of you lobbying objectives.
•You may gear your pitch toward Congress in general or toward a specific member of Congress. If you do the latter you may incorporate arguments that the congressperson you are targeting would find particularly compelling.
