Calculate the plant capacity factor 4. Name six components of a diesel power plant and explain the functions. 5. Draw a schematic diagram of a hydroelectric power plant including; clearly showing weir spillway penstock and tail race. 6. A hydroelectric plant is supplied from a catchment area of 90 km2 with an annual rainfall of 130 cm and head of 250 m. consider the yield factor of 50% and load factor of 60 %. Calculate the power produced and the capacity of the power plant. 7. Briefly explain two advantages and two disadvantage of a thermal power plant. 8. List the steps for putting incoming alternator in parallel with the running machine. 9. Briefly discuss the effect of change in excitation on alternators connected in parallel. 10. A 4000kVA 60 Hz 3-phase star connected synchronous generator having a synchronous reactance of 20 % is running at 25 rps and is excited to give 10000 V. Calculate the synchronizing power per two mechanical degree of displacement and the corresponding synchronizing torque. 11. A number of alternators are working in parallel with their terminal voltage equal to the rated value. One of the machines which have a synchronous reactance of 40 % and a resistance of 2% delivers a power output in kW equal to 70 % of its rated kVA. If the e.m.f of this unit equals 1.3 times the terminal voltage find out the power factor at which the machine is operating. DUE: 20/09/11
