    This assignment is an essay. Part (a) of assessment task 3 deals with leadership frameworks and is related specifically to Topic 3. Reading 5 (Sergiovanni) is very important because it describes a framework which has become the basis of other leadership frameworks. Readings 6 to 10 describe school leadership frameworks used in various parts of Australia. The Topic then goes on to detail a framework devised and written by the writers of this unit and course. This framework is similar to, but not identical with, the various state frameworks. Part (a) asks you to evaluate the effectiveness of the framework developed for the course as a method of analysing the standards of leadership in your school. One approach could be to select a particular leader in the school and evaluate that leader’s performance against the framework. You could then write about how effective the framework was in pursuing this exercise. If you wish you could use any of the other frameworks as your guide rather than the one developed at UNE.

    Part (b) of assessment task 3 is related to Topic 4. The remaining readings (11 to 16) are relevant here. The focus is on educational leadership and what it involves. The leadership frameworks also give some direction for this. You might like to think about how educational leadership is provided in schools that you know, especially your own school or institution. You should then consider how educational leadership should be provided and what are the levels of responsibility of various people within schools. Having considered all of this then answer part (b) by describing the characteristics of educational leadership and critically analysing the way educational leadership is practised in your school or institution.
